Don’t think of snack time as just a filler food to get you by until your next meal.  Take this opportunity to get some good nutrition into your day.  Instead of reaching for chips, cookies or a Snicker’s bar, make this delicious hummus recipe and keep it in your fridge for an easy go to snack or bring to work for a fabulous mid-day treat.

Hummus fan or not, this recipe is the bomb.  Even my son, that does not like hummus enjoyed this.  The flavors of “pizza” bring this spread into a whole new level of deliciousness.  So enjoy this healthy snack with veggie sticks or baked pita chips; or slather it on a chicken wrap or make a vegetarian pita sandwich with hummus and veggies.

Pizza Hummus Recipe

2 cup cooked garbanzo beans

– Can is fine – just drain and save water for later if needed

¼ cup pizza sauce

– I make homemade but store bought is fine

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoons lemon juice

¼ teaspoon of real sea salt or to taste

1 large clove of garlic

½ teaspoon dried basil

½ teaspoon dried oregano

Up to ¼ cup of water or water from garbanzos

Blend all ingredients in food processor or blender until smooth– I used my VitaMix.  You may need to add water to thin out – anywhere from 1 TBS to ¼ cup.  I used water from my cooked garbanzos.   You can always adjust seasoning and spices to your liking.

Enjoy your healthy snacking!  It will do your body a whole-lotta good.
